A premier institution in India was facing operational and security challenges due to its reliance on the outdated Cisco Catalyst 6807-XL core switch, which was nearing its end of life. Ageing hardware caused network instability, slow data transmission, and troubleshooting difficulties, while outdated firmware lacked modern threat detection and compliance features. Additionally, the legacy switch struggled to meet growing bandwidth demands from research and academic applications. To address these issues, the institution required a phased migration strategy to modernize its network infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability for uninterrupted operations.
The client engaged ROX Hi-Tech to execute a network infrastructure upgrade from the Cisco Catalyst 6807-XL to the Cisco Catalyst 9606R (C9600X-SUP-2 + C9600-C-48YL), significantly improving performance, scalability, and reliability. ROX Hi-Tech deployed the new system in parallel with the existing setup to minimise downtime, starting with core link modifications and gradually migrating critical services. By implementing dual supervisors with Stateful Switchover (SSO), Virtual Switching System (VSS) for failover, and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) for link optimisation, ROX Hi-Tech ensured redundancy and uninterrupted operations. The upgraded infrastructure now supports bandwidths of up to 100G and IPv6 compatibility, delivering a robust and future-ready network.
